Get the DIY Mechanic System- Spark plugs: NGK Laser Iridium DILKR7A11 (Toyota OEM: part number 90919-01253). Pack of 6.
- 5/8" spark plug socket, 3/8" ratchet, 6" extension + swivel adapter
- Torque wrench, dielectric grease
- T30 Torx or 10mm socket (ignition coil bolts)
- Compressed air

Iridium Plug Longevity Note
The 2GR-FE takes iridium plugs with a 0.6mm center electrode (vs. 2.5mm on copper). Toyota specifies a 60,000-mile service interval. Do not replace with copper or conventional platinum — wear rate is much faster. Do not re-gap iridium plugs with a flat blade feeler gauge — use wire-type only. NGK DILKR7A11 comes pre-gapped at 0.043" (1.1mm).
2GR-FE Layout
- Front bank (2, 4, 6): Faces hood. Easy access.
- Rear bank (1, 3, 5): Faces firewall. Requires 6" extension + swivel adapter but NO intake manifold removal on the Sienna. Start with the rear bank.
Step-by-Step
- Engine cold — minimum 2 hours.
- Remove engine cover — plastic push-clip fasteners.
- Disconnect battery negative — 10mm.
- Start rear bank (1, 3, 5) — Disconnect coil connector, remove T30 coil bolt, pull coil up.
- Blow out plug well — compressed air before removing plug.
- Remove plug — 5/8" socket + swivel adapter.
- Inspect old plug — tan/gray = normal. Sooty = rich. White = lean.
- Install new plug — hand-tight first, torque to 18 ft-lbs (25 Nm).
- Apply dielectric grease inside coil boot.
- Reinstall coil — seat firmly, torque bolt to 80 in-lbs (9 Nm).
- Reconnect harness connector.
- Repeat for front bank (2, 4, 6).
- Reconnect battery, reinstall engine cover, start engine.
