Part 1: 12V Auxiliary Battery Replacement

1. Locate the 12V Battery

In the 2021 Mach-E, the 12V auxiliary battery is located in the front trunk (frunk), on the driver's side, beneath a plastic trim panel. Open the frunk and remove the large black cover on the left side of the frunk floor.

2. Identify the Battery Terminals

You'll see a standard 12V battery with positive (+, red) and negative (−, black) terminals. Disconnecting the 12V battery resets the radio, windows (auto up/down), and may require a drive cycle for some modules to relearn.

3. Disconnect Negative First

Using a 10mm socket, loosen the negative (−) terminal clamp bolt and slide the cable off. Tuck it away so it cannot accidentally contact the terminal.

4. Disconnect Positive

Remove the positive (+) terminal. Cover the positive cable end with a rag.

5. Remove the Battery Hold-Down

Remove the J-bolt or bracket. Lift the old battery out.

6. Install the New Battery

Lower the new Group 40R AGM battery into the tray. Reinstall the hold-down bracket.

7. Reconnect Positive First, Then Negative

Connect positive, tighten with the 10mm socket. Then connect negative. Apply battery terminal protector spray if desired.

8. Verify and Relearn

Start the Mach-E. If infotainment is slow or shows an error, give it 5–10 minutes. Reset window auto-up/down by holding the window switch up until it clicks twice.

Part 2: Cabin Air Filter Replacement

1. Open the Glove Box

Open fully and release the glove box stops by squeezing the sides inward while pulling down.

2. Locate the Filter Housing

Behind the glove box, locate the plastic filter housing cover secured by clips or tabs.

3. Remove the Old Filter

Unclip or unscrew the housing cover. Slide out the old cabin air filter — note the orientation (arrow points toward cab interior).

4. Install the New Filter

Slide in the new Motorcraft FP-71 in the correct orientation. Reinstall the housing cover.

5. Reinstall the Glove Box

Snap the glove box stops back into the side panels and close.
