How to Change Your 2022 Chrysler Pacifica 3.6L Pentastar Oil — DIY Guide

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica runs the 3.6L Pentastar V6 — one of FCA's most widely used and well-proven engines. Dealers and quick-lube shops charge $95–$130 for this service. DIY cost is $35–$50. The Pentastar has a top-access cartridge filter that makes this a clean job. Here's how I do it.

Oil note: The 2022 Pacifica's 3.6L Pentastar specifies 0W-20 full synthetic meeting Chrysler MS-6395. Mopar MaxPro 0W-20, Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20, and Mobil 1 0W-20 all meet this spec.

Filter note: The Mopar 68191349AA is the cartridge element for the Pentastar's oil filter housing. The housing cap stays on the engine; you swap only the internal cartridge. A 24mm socket fits the housing cap on most Pentastar applications — confirm the exact size before starting.

Step-by-Step Oil Change

1. Warm the Engine

Run the Pacifica 5 minutes to warm the oil. Park on a level surface.

2. Locate the Filter Housing Cap (From Above)

Open the hood. On the 2022 Pacifica's 3.6L Pentastar, the oil filter housing is mounted upright on the driver's side front of the engine. Have a rag and drain tray ready.

3. Remove the Filter Housing Cap

Use a 24mm socket to turn the cap counterclockwise. Lift with the cartridge attached and let drain. Remove the old cartridge. Install the new Mopar 68191349AA cartridge, making sure the O-rings are in good condition.

4. Raise the Vehicle

Use ramps or a floor jack with stands. Confirm the vehicle is stable before going underneath.

5. Drain the Oil

Locate the 14mm drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. Remove counterclockwise. Let the Pentastar drain 8 minutes. Remove and discard the old Mopar 6509243AA drain plug gasket.

6. Reinstall the Drain Plug

Thread a new 6509243AA gasket onto the drain plug. Torque to 20 lb-ft (27 Nm). The Pentastar oil pan uses an aluminum thread insert — 20 lb-ft is correct, not higher.

7. Reinstall the Filter Housing Cap

Lightly oil the new O-rings with fresh 0W-20. Torque the housing cap to 25 lb-ft (34 Nm) — the plastic housing cap cracks if overtightened.

8. Add Oil

Add 5.0 quarts of 0W-20 full synthetic. Start the engine — oil pressure light clears in 2–3 seconds. Idle 2 minutes, shut off, wait 5 minutes. Check the dipstick and add remaining ~0.5 qt as needed. Final capacity with filter is 5.5 quarts.

9. Check for Leaks

Inspect the filter housing from above and the drain plug from below.

10. Reset the Oil Change Reminder

On the 2022 Pacifica: Press SETTINGS in the Uconnect infotainment screen, then navigate to Oil Life Reset and confirm.

1. Cartridge housing crack prevention: If the cap is stuck, apply penetrating oil around the threads before forcing it — cracked housing caps are a $60+ repair.
2. 0W-20 is required: Earlier Pentastar variants used 5W-20 — don't use that here. Check the oil filler cap for the spec label.
