Step-by-Step Oil Change
1. Prep the Vehicle
Start the engine and run for 5 minutes. The Maverick Hybrid will start in EV mode — let it warm up until the gasoline engine kicks on. Always verify the gasoline engine ran before performing an oil change.
2. Access the Underbody
Ramps or jack stands are recommended. There is a partial engine undertray — remove the two plastic push-pin fasteners at the rear of the tray to fold it back.
3. Drain the Oil
Locate the 15mm drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. Remove counterclockwise. Allow 6–8 minutes for a full drain.
4. Remove the Old Filter
The FL-2016 spin-on filter is on the passenger side of the engine block, toward the bottom front. Counterclockwise. Have a rag ready.
5. Install the New Filter
Apply a thin film of fresh 5W-30 to the rubber gasket on the new FL-2016. Thread in until the gasket seats, then turn an additional 3/4 turn by hand.
6. Reinstall the Drain Plug
Torque to 21 lb-ft (28 Nm).
7. Add Oil
Pour 4.2 quarts of WSS-M2C947-B1 5W-30 through the filler cap. Start the engine. Idle for 90 seconds, shut off, wait 5 minutes. Check the dipstick and top up. Full capacity is 4.7 quarts with filter.
8. Reset the Oil Life Monitor
Turn the ignition to "On" (do not start), press the accelerator pedal three times within 10 seconds. The oil life gauge should reset.

The 2022 Maverick Hybrid's 2.5L Atkinson-cycle engine runs fewer RPM-hours than a conventional engine — Ford's recommendation is 10,000 miles or 1 year.
