2023 Honda HR-V 2.0L Oil Change — DIY Guide

Honda dealers charge $85–$120 for an HR-V oil change; the DIY cost is around $30. The 2023 HR-V's naturally-aspirated 2.0L LFC engine has good underbody access, no skid plates, and a filter easy to reach from below.

Step-by-Step Oil Change

1. Warm and Position

Drive 5 minutes. Park on level ground. Remove the oil filler cap to speed the drain.

2. Drain the Oil

The drain plug (17mm hex) is on the bottom-rear of the oil pan. Remove counterclockwise. The LFC holds 3.5 quarts — drain takes 5–6 minutes. Discard the old aluminum crush washer.

3. Remove the Old Filter

The 15400-PLM-A02 spin-on filter is on the driver-side of the engine, accessible from below. Counterclockwise. Have a rag ready.

4. Install the New Filter

Coat the new filter's rubber gasket lightly with fresh 0W-20. Thread in until gasket seats, then turn 3/4 additional turn by hand.

5. Reinstall the Drain Plug

Install the new 90410-PC6-000 crush washer. Torque to 33 lb-ft (44 Nm).

6. Add Oil

Pour 3.2 quarts through the filler cap. Start the engine — oil pressure clears in seconds. Idle 90 seconds, shut off, wait 5 minutes. Check dipstick and top up. Full capacity is 3.7 quarts with filter.

7. Leak Check and Reset

Check drain plug and filter base. If the filter base seeps, the old O-ring is still in the seating groove — remove it immediately.

Reset the Maintenance Minder: turn ignition to "On," navigate to wrench icon, hold reset button for 10 seconds.

Engine Notes

The 2023 HR-V's 2.0L LFC is a naturally-aspirated Honda four-cylinder optimized for fuel economy. Oil change intervals are relaxed at the 5,000-mile Maintenance Minder trigger — but in dusty or stop-and-go conditions, consider 5,000 miles regardless of the Minder. Same filter family as the 2023 Honda Accord 1.5T oil change guide.
