Problem 1: Oil Dilution — 5th Gen 1.5T (2017–2021)
This is the most discussed CR-V problem of the modern era. The 1.5L turbocharged engine can inject excess fuel that washes past the cylinder walls and mixes with the engine oil, diluting it with gasoline. Cold-climate owners are most affected — if you frequently drive short trips in cold weather, the engine may not reach operating temperature long enough to burn off the fuel contamination.

- Pull the dipstick and smell the oil — a strong gasoline smell is a clear indicator
- Check the dipstick level — diluted oil may read above the full mark (because fuel is adding volume)
- Run the engine to operating temp and check again
