Step-by-Step Oil Change
1. Warm and Position
Run the Yukon for 5–7 minutes. Park on a level surface. Z71 models have a factory skid plate — remove the perimeter bolts to lower the plate if equipped.
2. Locate the Drain Plug and Filter
The 15mm drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan, passenger-side rear. The ACDelco PF64 spin-on filter is on the driver-side of the engine block, low and toward the front. Both are visible immediately from under the front of the vehicle.
3. Drain the Oil
Position your 8-quart (or larger) drain pan under the drain plug. Remove counterclockwise. Allow 10–12 minutes for a complete 8-quart drain. Remove and discard the old GM 11546410 drain plug gasket.
4. Remove the Old Filter
The ACDelco PF64 sits at a slight angle. Position a rag beneath it before it fully releases. Counterclockwise to remove.
5. Install the New Filter
Apply fresh 0W-20 to the new PF64's rubber gasket. Thread clockwise until gasket contacts the block, then 3/4 additional turn by hand.
6. Reinstall the Drain Plug
Install the new GM 11546410 gasket. Torque to 18 lb-ft (25 Nm). A torque wrench is not optional — the aluminum oil pan will strip over time if guessing "snug."
7. Add Oil
Pour 7.5 quarts of dexos1 Gen 2 0W-20 through the oil filler cap (driver-side valve cover). Start the engine — oil pressure indicator extinguishes within 5 seconds. Idle 90 seconds, shut off, wait 5 minutes. Check the dipstick and top up. Full capacity with filter is 8.0 quarts.
8. Inspect and Reset
Run at idle 3 minutes. Check filter and drain plug for any seepage. After the first drive, recheck on a clean surface.
Reset the Engine Oil Life System (EOLS): use the DIC steering wheel controls to navigate to "Remaining Oil Life" and hold SET/CLR until it resets to 100%.
DFM Notes
The 2022 Yukon 5.3L uses Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) — an advanced version of Active Fuel Management that deactivates cylinders across a wider operating range. DFM requires clean, shear-stable 0W-20 to manage lifter solenoids reliably. Using thicker oil or extending intervals beyond 7,500 miles can cause lifter noise.
