How to Change Your 2022 Mercedes GLC 300's Oil — DIY Guide
Here's what I do every time I service the 2022 Mercedes GLC 300 — and this is one European car where the DIY savings are significant. Mercedes dealers charge $200–$300 for an oil service on the GLC 300; DIY cost is around $65–$90. The M264 engine is a clean piece of engineering with a top-mounted filter housing and a conventional drain plug. The only real nuance is the MB 229.6 oil spec — don't substitute a generic synthetic.

Oil note: MB 229.6 is required for the 2022 GLC 300 M264 — not the older 229.5 spec. Correct options: Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 0W-20, Castrol Edge Professional LL IV FE 0W-20, Liqui-Moly 0W-20 MB 229.6, and Petronas Syntium 7000 0W-20. Generic API SP oils do not meet MB 229.6 additive requirements.
Filter note: The A0001802309 is a cartridge kit that includes the element, two O-rings, and a new drain plug seal. It typically runs $18–$28 but includes everything in one kit.

Step-by-Step Oil Change
1. Warm the Engine
Run the GLC 300 for 7 minutes. The M264's 6.1-qt capacity takes 10+ minutes to fully drain warm — and 0W-20 drains almost like water when hot.
2. Access the Undertray
Remove the T20 Torx screws on the service panel (seven or eight). The panel pops down to expose the drain plug.
3. Remove the Filter Housing Cap First (From Above)
The filter housing is on the top of the engine. Use a 27mm cup socket to break the housing cap counterclockwise — it's tight the first time. Pull the cap with the old filter element. Install both new O-rings from the A0001802309 kit. Insert the new filter element and set aside.
4. Drain the Oil
Position your drain pan under the 13mm drain plug. Remove — the 6.1-qt capacity takes a full 10 minutes. Remove and discard the aluminum seal ring.
5. Reinstall the Drain Plug
Install the new A0139978145 aluminum seal ring. Thread in by hand. Torque to 22 lb-ft (30 Nm).
6. Complete the Filter Housing Installation
Reinstall the filter housing cap from above — torque to 22 lb-ft (30 Nm).
7. Reinstall the Undertray Service Panel
Reinstall the panel and all T20 Torx screws — snug only.
8. Add Oil
Remove the oil filler cap (yellow, toward the driver's side). Add 5.5 quarts of MB 229.6 0W-20. Crank the engine — oil pressure light clears within 4 seconds. Idle 2 minutes, shut off, wait 5 minutes. Check oil level via MBUX → Vehicle Information → Service → Oil Level. Top up to max. Final capacity with filter is 6.1 quarts.
9. Check for Leaks
Idle 3 minutes. Check the filter housing cap and drain plug area.
10. Reset the Service Counter (ASSYST PLUS)
Via MBUX: Vehicle → Service → Oil Change Service → Reset.
2022 GLC 300 M264 Ownership Notes
- BSG (Belt-Starter-Generator): The 2022 GLC 300 uses a 48V mild hybrid system with a belt-starter-generator. If the M264 starts with any hesitation, inspect the BSG belt.
- Active cylinder deactivation (Camtronic): The M264 can deactivate two cylinders at light loads. Normal and imperceptible in daily driving.
- MB 229.6 spec is non-negotiable: The M264's extended-drain engineering is based entirely on 229.6 spec oil chemistry. Using a non-spec oil at the ASSYST PLUS maximum interval dramatically accelerates engine wear.
