2022 Nissan Murano 3.5L Oil Change — DIY Guide
2022 Nissan Murano 3.5L Oil Change — DIY Guide
Nissan dealers charge $110–$150 for a Murano oil change; you can do it yourself for around $40. The VQ35DD in the third-generation Murano is a solid direct-injection V6 — the oil change takes about 30 minutes.

Oil note: Nissan updated the VQ35 family to 0W-20 with the DD (direct injection) designation — do not use the older 5W-30 spec from the VQ35DE. The 2022 Murano uses the VQ35DD. Nissan Genuine 0W-20 or any API SP / ILSAC GF-6A 0W-20 full synthetic is appropriate.

Step-by-Step Oil Change
1. Warm and Position
Drive for 5–7 minutes. Park on level ground. Jack stands or ramps are recommended. The 2022 Murano has a partial plastic engine undershield — fold it back by removing 2–4 push-pin clips from the rear edge.
2. Drain the Oil
Locate the 14mm drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan — center-rear. Remove counterclockwise. Allow 7–8 minutes. Remove and discard the old 11026-JA01A drain plug washer.
3. Remove the Old Filter
The 15208-65F0E spin-on filter is on the passenger-side front of the VQ35DD block. Counterclockwise. Use a strap wrench if overtightened.
4. Install the New Filter
Apply a thin film of fresh 0W-20 to the new filter gasket. Thread in until gasket seats, then 3/4 additional turn by hand.
5. Reinstall the Drain Plug
Install the new 11026-JA01A washer. Torque to 25 lb-ft (34 Nm).
6. Add Oil
Pour 4.6 quarts of 0W-20 through the filler cap. Start the engine — oil pressure clears in 3–5 seconds. Idle 90 seconds, shut off, wait 5 minutes. Check the dipstick and top up. Full capacity with filter is 5.1 quarts.
7. Reset the Oil Life Monitor
Turn the ignition on (engine off), navigate the cluster display to "Engine Oil Life," press and hold OK until it resets.
VQ35DD Notes
The VQ35DD is Nissan's direct-injection variant — it can develop intake valve carbon deposits over time. Nissan recommends 5,000-mile intervals for the VQ35DD in the Murano; follow that rather than extending to 7,500 miles. For the same engine in another platform, see the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder 3.5L oil change guide.
