How to Change Your 2022 Toyota Sienna 2.5L Hybrid's Oil — DIY Guide
Here's what I do every time I service the 2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid — and if you've ever changed oil on an older Toyota, this one will feel familiar. The 2022 Sienna is hybrid-only, running a 2.5L Dynamic Force engine paired with two electric motors. Toyota dealers charge $140–$190; DIY cost runs $45–$60. The only oddity is the 0W-16 oil spec — don't substitute 0W-20.

Oil note: 0W-16 is not a common spec in the U.S. market, but availability has improved. Toyota Genuine 0W-16, Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-16, and Idemitsu 0W-16 all meet Toyota's spec. Using 0W-20 in this engine is not recommended — the Dynamic Force engine's tighter tolerances are designed around 0W-16 viscosity.
Filter note: The 04152-YZZA6 is the same filter used across the 2022–2024 Sienna and Venza Hybrid. The cartridge is accessed from the top of the engine — easier than most SUVs.

Step-by-Step Oil Change
1. Warm the Engine
Run the Sienna for 5–7 minutes. The hybrid system starts and stops the engine frequently during warm-up. Once you've driven it normally, oil temp is adequate. Park level. Switch to PARK and press the Power button to full off (not READY mode). Confirm no green READY light is on — the Sienna's engine can restart unexpectedly in Ready mode.
2. Access the Drain Plug
The 2022 Sienna has a partial engine undertray. Use ramps for easy access. The drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan, 14mm hex.
3. Drain the Oil
Position the drain pan. Remove the filler cap on top first to speed draining. Remove the 14mm drain plug — the Sienna's 6.0-qt capacity takes about 10 minutes for a full drain. Remove and discard the copper 90430-12031 drain plug gasket.
4. Replace the Filter Cartridge
The filter housing is on the top of the engine, toward the front. Use a Toyota filter wrench (64.5mm) to loosen the housing cap counterclockwise. Pull the cap out — the 04152-YZZA6 element comes with it. Remove the old O-ring. Install the new O-ring (included in the filter kit), insert the new filter element, and reinstall the cap. Torque to 18 lb-ft (25 Nm).
5. Reinstall the Drain Plug
Thread in a new 90430-12031 gasket on the drain plug. Install by hand until seated. Torque to 27 lb-ft (37 Nm).
6. Add Oil
Add 5.5 quarts of 0W-16 to start. Reinstall the filler cap. Check the dipstick with the ignition in ON (not READY). Add oil in small increments to reach the full mark. Final capacity is 6.0 quarts.
7. Start the Engine and Check for Leaks
Switch to READY mode and let the hybrid system warm the engine. Within 90 seconds, inspect under the vehicle for leaks at the drain plug and filter housing.
8. Reset the Maintenance Light
On the 2022 Sienna: press the odometer/trip reset button to display "TRIP A," turn the ignition off, hold the trip button, turn ignition on (not READY), continue holding until the maintenance light blinks and resets.
Sienna Hybrid Maintenance Notes
The A25A-FXS Hybrid drivetrain is low-maintenance compared to a traditional minivan engine. Key differences:
- No transmission fluid changes on the same schedule — the eCVT uses separate ATF that Toyota specs as sealed for life. Many owners recommend a fluid exchange at 60,000–100,000 miles regardless.
- 12V accessory battery — the Sienna Hybrid has a 12V AGM battery (separate from the HV traction battery). It typically lasts 4–6 years. Watch for slow crank or infotainment boot delays.
- HV battery coolant — the high-voltage battery has its own cooling loop with a separate coolant reservoir. Check the level annually.
