Oil note: The MR20DD is a naturally aspirated aluminum engine that runs clean on 0W-20 full synthetic. Nissan-brand 0W-20, Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, and Pennzoil Platinum all meet ILSAC GF-6A. Do not use 5W-30 — the Sentra's oil control rings are optimized for thin 0W-20 and a heavier weight increases fuel consumption without adding protection.

Step-by-Step Oil Change
1. Warm the Engine
Run the Sentra for 5 minutes to warm the oil. Warm oil drains faster and more completely than cold oil. Park on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Raise the Front of the Car
The 2023 Sentra sits relatively low. Use a floor jack and jack stands or drive-up ramps to get comfortable underbody access. Position jack stands at the manufacturer's frame pinch-weld points. Never work under a car supported only by a floor jack.
3. Remove the Undertray
The Sentra has a plastic underbody tray with a removable access panel (or in some trims, a full tray). Remove the 10mm bolts around the access panel to expose the oil pan and filter.
4. Position the Drain Pan
Slide your 5-quart drain pan under the drain plug. The MR20DD drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan, toward the driver's side. Locate the 14mm hex head.
5. Remove the Drain Plug
Loosen counterclockwise with your 14mm socket. The last few threads should be removed by hand — keep slight inward pressure so oil doesn't spray your arm. Allow the full 4.4 quarts to drain. This takes 8–10 minutes.
Slide the old Nissan 11026-01M02 crush washer off the plug and discard it.
6. Remove the Old Filter
The Nissan 15208-65F0E is a spin-on filter on the passenger side of the engine block. Break it loose counterclockwise with an oil filter wrench. Finish removing by hand. Have a rag ready — the filter holds about a quarter cup of oil.
7. Install the New Filter
Lightly coat the new filter's rubber gasket with fresh 0W-20. Thread the filter clockwise until the gasket contacts the block, then rotate 3/4 turn more by hand. No wrench on installation — hand-tight only.
8. Install the New Drain Plug
Thread the new 11026-01M02 washer onto the drain plug. Start the plug by hand to avoid cross-threading. Torque to 25 lb-ft (34 Nm) with your torque wrench.
9. Add Oil
Pop the hood and remove the oil filler cap (top of the valve cover, marked with the oil can icon). Add 4.0 quarts of 0W-20. Start the engine and let it idle — the oil pressure warning light should go out within 5 seconds. Idle for 60–90 seconds.
Shut off the engine, wait 5 minutes, then check the dipstick. The full mark is 4.4 quarts with the filter. Top up as needed.
10. Check for Leaks
Run the engine at idle for 2 minutes. Inspect the filter and drain plug from below. No seepage is normal — even a small drip means the washer isn't seating correctly or the filter is under-tightened.
11. Reinstall the Undertray
Reinstall the access panel and bolts. Drive for 5–10 miles, then park on a clean surface and do a final check.
12. Reset the Service Indicator
In the 2023 Sentra: turn the ignition to ON (without starting). Press the accelerator pedal to the floor three times within 10 seconds. The "CHANGE OIL" message should flash and reset. For vehicles with the larger infotainment display, use the Settings menu → Maintenance → Oil Life Reset.
MR20DD Oil Change Interval Notes
Nissan's service reminder on the 2023 Sentra is set conservatively at 5,000 miles under "severe" conditions (short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extreme temperatures) and up to 7,500 miles under normal highway driving. If you use full synthetic and drive mostly highway miles, 7,500-mile intervals are reasonable. Stick with 5,000-mile intervals for city-heavy commuters.
