2023 Toyota Sequoia 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6 Oil Change — DIY Guide

Dealers charge $130–$180 to change oil on the new Sequoia's twin-turbo V35A-FTS; do it yourself for around $65 in parts. The job takes 45 minutes, and the turbo-specific oil spec is straightforward once you know what you're looking for.

Oil note: 0W-16 is required for the V35A-FTS. Toyota Genuine 0W-16 (Part No. 00279-0WQTE-01) is widely available at Toyota dealers. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-16 (full synthetic, API SP) is an acceptable alternative.

Step-by-Step Oil Change

1. Warm Up and Position

Drive for 5–7 minutes to warm the oil. Park on a level surface. The Sequoia's standard ride height gives reasonable underbody clearance — no jack needed if you have a low-profile drain pan.

2. Locate the Drain Plug and Filter Housing

The drain plug (14mm) is on the bottom of the oil pan on the passenger side. The oil filter housing is on top of the engine toward the rear — access from above through the engine bay.

3. Drain the Oil

Position your drain pan. Remove the drain plug counterclockwise with a 14mm socket. Allow 8–10 minutes for full drainage. Pull the old crush washer off and discard it.

4. Remove the Filter Cartridge

From above, use the 64mm cap-style filter socket to turn the filter housing cap counterclockwise. Lift straight up to remove. Separate the old filter element from the cap and discard.

5. Install the New Filter

Check the new Toyota 90915-10010 element — it comes with a new O-ring for the housing cap. Remove the old O-ring and seat the new one. Seat the new filter element onto the cap's center post. Lower the assembly into the housing and thread the cap clockwise. Torque to 18 lb-ft (25 Nm).

6. Reinstall the Drain Plug

Install the new 90430-12031 crush washer. Thread in the drain plug by hand, then torque to 30 lb-ft (40 Nm).

7. Add Oil

Pour 7.0 quarts of 0W-16 through the filler cap. Start the engine — the oil pressure light should extinguish within 3–5 seconds. Let it idle for 90 seconds, shut off, and wait 5 minutes. Check the dipstick and add oil as needed. Full capacity is 7.4 quarts with filter.

8. Inspect for Leaks

Run the engine at idle for 3 minutes. Check around the filter housing cap and drain plug.

9. Reset the Maintenance Reminder

Press and hold the trip meter reset button until the oil maintenance indicator resets, or use the MID: Settings → Vehicle → Maintenance Reset.


Turbo Notes
